Inhoud: This article introduces research into 'post-church' groups as emergent forms of church in New Zealand. The reasons people identify with these groups are discussed and common characteristics highlighted. Such post-church groups are described as 'liminal' and illustrative of an important dual parentage needed by 'emergent churches' if they are to reflect and embrace the heart and depth of the Christian faith while also embracing changing cultural forms, concerns and opportunities. Drawing on the faith stage analysis of James Fowler and the writings of Kester Brewin, an essential aspect of this dual parentage is expressed in the conjunctive stage of faith expression. Post-church groups, though, are not the only model of dual parentage and conjunctive faith expression. These principles are also illustrated from an old and unlikely source: a Cistercian Abbey.
