Titel: Unravelling the DNA of church: How can we know that what is emerging is 'Church'?
Auteur: Lings, George

Jaar: 2006-03-01
Inhoud: This article explores three different ways the recently coined analogy of DNA is being applied to our understanding of the Church. Respectively, they search for the essence of church, seek to retain the fullness of church, or disclose how it reproduces. The investigation excludes from the discussion what is merely corporate but not specifically church. It explores parallels and limitations of using the four historic marks (One Holy Catholic and Apostolic) to assess what is church. Among the cautions are that it shows how the meaning of the words has changed, which are dominant among historic and emerging churches and opens up whether there is a creative shift in the inner dominance between the four words. It commends a deeper conversation between missiologists and ecclesiologists, in which the historic marks and our mission context have a mutually positive influence. It ends with a suggestion of the content in the minimalist DNA of church.
