The proof of a well-known necessary condition for a quadratic form, x'Ax, to have a chi-squared distribution in the noncentral case (that is, when the mean of x is a non-null vector) requires the use of advanced mathematical theory. An alternative proof is presented in this article using only simple tools of calculus and some basic matrix results. |
