In order to present the computer to students at the Polytechnic of Central London, in as realistic a manner as possible, and still keep within the constraints of time, syllabus and manpower to run it: the program below was developed. This program essentially enables several teams to play an Inventory Control game competitively, thus learning the essentials of stock and material control which is part of the Part II syllabus of the Diploma in Management Studies. It will also allow the teaching (manually), of forecasting, regression and flow charting to be included as the game is continued with interruptions for this purpose. The game is played via a time-sharing terminal and is written in Hewlett-Packard Time Shared Basic. The program is sufficiently long to include most of the more common programming techniques and these may be used as the basis for discussions if desired about how certain functions required of the program may be written. |
