Although scholars have researched reentry shock of adults, there is little research on the reentry adjustment of children who have accompanied their parents abroad and lived there for an extended period of time. This study reports on interviews with eleven Japanese children who lived abroad during their parents' extended business assignments and returned within the past year, and thirteen mothers of children who have returned from abroad. The study investigates how the ages of the children and the period and sites of their stays affect their readjustments to the Japanese school environment and what kinds of difficulties they have had in readjustment. The study also suggests remedies to help children readjust to Japanese society. |
