The author argues that the very popular television reality court show genre also serves a disciplinary function that is focused specifically on the management of class and race/ethnicity. Drawing on Foucault's theories of discipline, the author identifies the forms and the strategies by which this is accomplished, noting the complex manner in which moral excess and authority are inscribed in ways that cultivate the normalization and encourage the internalisation of hegemonic, dominant discourses of discipline that revolve about class and race/ethnicity. |
