The essay argues that the analysis of black women's everyday talk must account for African-American culture and socioeconomic class, as well as gender, as simultaneous and interrelated influences. It explores the appropriateness of a systemic form of feminist theory to such analysis, emphasizing the contrast between “normal science”; and feminist approaches to research, feminist research methods, and the relationship between research informed by feminist theory and change in black women's communicative lives. |
