Using five novels as a case study, this paper analyzes how literature treats conflicts between traditional and modernity, particularly development problems and approaches for resolving development-related difficulties. It concludes that by examining literary works for the way they discuss development problems and needs, the reader or researcher could achieve a new and, perhaps, a more personal understanding of the complexities of national development. |
