This article summarizes a study of the regional and municipal locational preferences and needs of Danish business service firms. The study indicates that only a minor part of the business service sector depends on a location in the town centre and that the orientation towards the centre is diminishing. Some reasons as to why the sector still seeks central locations, despite these results, are identified, as are a number of factors that sustain the myths about the centre-dependency of the business service sector. The article concludes with a proposal for a new strategy that may encourage firms to locate in the suburbs. |
