The present article is an abstract of a study of land-use changes in the core areas of two medium-sized Danish towns. Land-use can be regarded as a physical reflection of the social processes of society and, as such, the changes within land-use mirror social development. It is demonstrated that attempts to renew the urban core, in order to increase its accessibility and capacity, have led to significant shifts in land-use, all indicating an increasing degree of functional segregation within the core areas. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that even though the functional specialization has not been the primary goal of the renewal, it is an almost inevitable outcome of it. |
