The economic behaviour of elderly people in housing markets

Titel: The economic behaviour of elderly people in housing markets
Auteur: Struyk, Raymond J.
Verschenen in: Housing studies
Paginering: Jaargang 2 (1987) nr. 4 pagina's 221-236
Jaar: 1987
Inhoud: Elderly-headed households are singled out for an analysis of their housing consumption and ways in which they adjust their housing in response to shifts in economic and demographic circumstances. This group merits attention because of their growing representation in the populations of developed nations, the disproportionate share of resources their long-term care will require and the role of housing in the long-term care system, and the possible differences in the behaviour of elderly and non-elderly households in housing markets. The paper examines the housing behaviour of elderly people from three perspectives: their housing consumption and housing needs; the ways and frequency with which the elderly make changes in the bundle of housing services they consume; and the implications of their housing circumstances and housing adjustments for housing policies and programmes.
