This research presents case studies of women who are research biologists — high achievers in their field — and who are also mothers of daughters. It explores the issue of intergenerational socialization into science, and describes ways in which the scientist mothers foster or fail to foster an orientation to scientific fields on the part of their daughters. The daughters' perspectives on science professions are also investigated. One case study will be summarized here and findings from the others integrated into a descriptive analysis. |
