A novel fullerene derivative containing a dibenzo-18-crown-6 and a Schiff base linkage has been synthesized, purified and characterized using elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and MALDI mass spectra. The fulleropyrrolidine derivative thus obtained was studied for its complexing properties with certain metals ions such as Na+, K+, NH4+, Mg+2, Ca+2, Ba+2, and Cu+2 using cyclic voltammetry. The best results were obtained with Cu+2 probably because of the presence of the Schiff base linkage. The binding constants and stoichiometry of the complexes formed were also calculated.
