Optical fiber splicing using low-melting-point glass solder

Title: Optical fiber splicing using low-melting-point glass solder
Author: Eickhoff, W.
Guttmann, J.
Krumpholz, O.
Maslowski, S.
Appeared in: Fiber & integrated optics
Paging: Volume 2 (1979) nr. 1 pages 63-67
Year: 1979
Contents: A new splicing technique is described that uses a low-melting-point glass solder as the connecting material. Losses between 0.2 and 0.4dB have been obtained for a fiber with a 45-μm core diameter. The measured breaking strength of the splices was in the range of 3 to 5N.
