Sol-Gel prepared PZT films of composition Pb1.05 (Zr0.53Ti0.47)O3 were isothermally annealed at different temperatures between 400°C and 700°C for various times and the phases formed were determined by X-ray diffraction. The sequence of phase formation with increasing temperature is found to be: amorphous → amorphous + PbTi3O7(PT) + PbO-ZrO2 solid solution (PbO-Z) → PT + PbO-Z + pyrochlore (pyro) → PbO-Z + pyro → PbO-Z + pyro + perovskite (per-o) → PbO-Z + pero → pero. Thus the PbO-Z phase forms at all temperatures. Below 700°C the cubic pyrochlore phase forms first while at 700°C the perovskite phase forms directly within 1 minute. A tentative TTT diagram is presented. |
