This paper reviews literature in the area of in-service training for persons working with individuals with impairments. It is proposed that in-service training must be related to the general process of adult education and to other types of interventions, for example organizational changes. A model is presented in which in-service training is compared with ordinary client focused intervention along the dimensions: target group, goals, target population, format, topic, focus, process and time frame. Implication of these comparisons for the format and content of in-service training are discussed. |
