In Hungary the early detection of children 'at risk', leading to early intervention, has become a vital issue. To tackle the problem of dyslexia special screening tests were adapted for children of kindergarten age, which in Hungary is from 3 to 6 years old. Inizan's test (Inizan, 1963) surveys three main areas: spatial and temporal orientation and speech. Modification was necessary because of the differences in culture and language. The qualitative evaluation of the test is rather important as it reveals those mental functions that do not reach the required level. The following abilities that are important in the reading process are assessed: analysis and synthesis; integration; serial order; fine motor coordination; motor planning; rhythm; and verbal short-term memory. The performance on the test forms the basis for preventive therapy. |
