The behaviour of venture capitalists (VCs) and their affiliated new venture organizations (NVOs) is investigated in the context of the dual-core model of innovation. It is posited that in the post-investment relationship between the VC and the NVO, the technical core is generally supplied by the NVO entrepreneur/scientist. However, the administrative needs of the firm are often ignored by these technocrats. Therefore, the VC may need to fill the firm's administrative needs through information processing, structural, decision making, and other managerial methods. Here preliminary evidence data supplied by a random sample of 87 VCs support the contention that certain demographic, environmental, information processing, structural, and decision-making variables affect the perceived performance of the NVO.
