ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS IN DESIGNING TWO-WAY SPANNING REINFORCED CONCRETE SLABS

Title: ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS IN DESIGNING TWO-WAY SPANNING REINFORCED CONCRETE SLABS
Author: Mills, G. M.
Appeared in: Engineering optimization
Paging: Volume 2 (1976) nr. 2 pages 137-144
Year: 1976
Contents: This paper deals with the factors affecting the cost of construction of reinforced concrete slabs spanning in two directions, particularly rectangular slabs supported by beams or walls. Various non-dimensional graphs are presented to assist the designer of reinforced concrete buildings to optimize the cost of reinforced concrete slabs. With the aid of these graphs and other optimization techniques based on yield-line theory, potential savings in cost of up to 5 per cent in construction may be possible.
