A formulation, based on first order information, for approximating second and higher order derivatives of behaviour constraint functions in structural optimization problems is developed. These derivatives have been used in an approximate re-analysis formulation to provide an order of magnitude error estimate of, and an improvement over, first-order Taylor series approximations of displacement updates in line search techniques. Numerical examples on popular test problems have been provided to illustrate the accuracy and usefulness of the results. |
