The statics and kinematics of framed structures are presented in mesh format and the constitutive relations of a perfectly plastic material are described for the simple limit behaviour envisaged. A description of load space is given as an aid to the development of general limit theorems for plastic analysis under multiple loadings, and a special type of analysis problem is treated by linear programming. Limit synthesis with respect to a linear objective function for strictly alternative loadings is also given a linear program representation with special attention to the kinematic formulation, and a superposition theorem is presented for combining designs. Synthesis for a variable loading, the range of which is not very severely restricted, is finally shown to reduce to the previous problem of synthesis for a set of alternative loadings contained in the range. |
