This paper presents an optimization principle for discrete-lime control problems that contains some elements of both the classical maximum principle and the optimality principle of dynamic programming. The applicability of this principle is shown by discussing three case studies: a warehousing problem, a production planning problem and the design of a pump-pipe system. |
