This paper explores developments in the ways in which Emotional and behavioural Difficulties (EBD's) have been construed and dealt with in recent years. Particular attention is given to the need to move beyond a tradition of thinking which sees social and individual explanations as being in conflict with one another. Effective approaches to EBD's, it is argued, must be multidimensional, multidisciplinary, and based on a recognition of the ways in which biological, psychological, social and cultural factors interact. |
