Current-compounded excitation circuits will regulate the terminal voltage of isolated synchronous generators, typically to within ± 3% of the nominal value, throughout the rated range of load current and power factor. By investigating the VA rating of the components involved, the paper shows that their weight and cost can be minimised, and an optimum regulator design thereby achieved. Graphical results for a range of generator parameters are presented for use in optimum design considerations |
