Inhoud: This paper presents a technique for efficient calculation of the annual adequacy indices of a composite generation and transmission, or bulk power system. Adequacy indices usually are designated as annualized values, when a single load level is used to represent the annual load model. The actual annual adequacy indices usually are obtained by considering a stepped load model at each load point. This approach can be very time consuming, especially when the number of the load steps is large in order to provide more accurate evaluation. The approach presented in this paper directly incorporates the actual bus load duration curves in the calculation of the annual adequacy indices. The basic concepts are illustrated using simple power networks. System studies on two reliability test systems are provided. The results obtained using the various approaches are illustrated, compared, and analyzed in the paper.
