Inhoud: A generalized simulation technique that can be used to study both dynamic and steady state performance of a phase-controlled thyristor voltage regulator with static RL and Induction motor loads is presented. The technique extends an approach developed earlier for application to a cycloconverter fed induction motor drive - where logic variables represent the thyristor switches in the voltage regulator model and the induction motor operation for various modes with the switchings in the stator is represented by a generalized set of equations in d-q reference frame. The equations so developed avoid any matrix inversion operation during computation. Digital computer programs developed for determination of the switching variables and the simulation of the systems are discussed and typical steady state and dynamic responses as predicted with thyristor firing angles as independent variables are shown.
