Inhoud: The decoupled load flow methods in polar and rectangular coordinates are compared. In this paper it is shown that the FDLF(Rectangular) can lead to faster solutions if slack bus choice is properly made. Guide lines for the proper choice of slack bus is indicated. It is possible to represent the transformer tap by its actual value in rectangular form rather than unity as assumed in FDLF(P). With such choice of slack bus and correct representation of transformer tap, the performance of this method is studied for different situations like wide variations in voltage magnitudes(up to 0.6 p.u) and phase angles as well and lines with high R/X ratios. It is also shown that neglecting the resistances in B” and considering it in B' improves the convergence of both the decoupled versions for systems with high R/X ratio lines. Test results of IEEE standard systems and some actual utility networks obtained by the authors show that the FDLF(R) is faster than FDLF(P) by about 50%.
