Inhoud: A new variable speed drive system is defined with a three phase cage asynchronous motor fed by normal sinusoidal supply at constant frequency and voltage through line series constant capacitors and parallel thyristor half-bridge. The variable motor voltage is controlled by the SCRs which produce zero sequence component. This very simple drive is of lower cost than inverter ones but the capacitors and the cage resistance must be optimized to avoid poor performance and feed-back circuit is necessary to insure stability. A model has been defined to determine all the steady and transient states performance taking account of the control and feed-back circuits. A state matrix equation based on instantaneous symmetrical components is used for stability analysis. An experimental system has been built and tested which gives very good agreement with calculated results. Its shows the interest of this system in a limited speed range at rated torque or in a large speed range for linear or parabolic speed-torque curve load. It has been noticed also a low harmonic pollution with respect to the supply and the motor.
