Contents: The problem of subsynchronous resonance (SSR) in power systems with series-compensated transmission lines has been given a great deal of attention, as is evident from the recent literature. Any analytical tool for studying the SSR phenomena would be incomplete without inclusion of the location of the series compensation. This paper presents a firsthand look at the effect of including the location of such line compensation on system SSR stability rones. A rigorous mathematical model is used in the analysis. Results of a computer simulation prove that the effectiveness of the line compensation on system SSR stability zones depends on where the series capacitor is located.
