A reliable and simple method is presented in this paper for filtering and ranking of critical contingencies. Infinite norm is used for filtering of critical contingencies and performance indices which reflect transmission line overloads, load voltage levels and generator reactive capabilities are used to rank the identified critical contingencies in a decreasing order of severity. Secondary outages are also included in the proposed method. Outage simulation technique is used to simulate the outage of a line or a transformer. A constant sensitivity matrix which is the inverse of the constant Jacobian of the modified Newton-Raphson load flow method is used in these studies. The proposed technique has been validated by testing it on various test systems and relevant results are presented |
