Contents: In this paper, the analysis of nonlinear dynamics, especially chaotic behavior, in switched reluctance (SR) motors using current hysteresis regulation is carried out first. Based on the derivation of the corresponding Poincaremap, the periodic (fundamental and subharmonic) and chaotic behaviors are analyzed by computer simulation. Bifurcation diagrams with respect to the speed feedback gain, the load torque, and the current hysteresis band are also figured out so as to study the effect of system parameters on the nonlinear dynamics. It can be identified that the chaotic phase current and electromagnetic torque are uniform but irregular. Moreover, their oscillating magnitudes are very similar to those at periodic operations. It implies that this chaotic behavior may be utilized to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and acoustic noise.
