Inhoud: This paper presents a method of determination of steady-state performance of single phase induction motors controlled by series connected thyristor switches. The small periodic fluctuations in speed under steady state are neglected. Under this assumption non-linear differential equations describing the operation of the machine become linear differential equations with constant coefficients, and are solved by Laplace Transform method and closed form solutions are obtained for the two conduction states. However, an iterative procedure is used to fit the two solutions together to get the overall steady state solution. The analysis is in terms of the directly controllable variable, the firing angle of the thyristors, and not in terms of OFF-time(or ON-time) as done by earlier authors. The solution as obtained here gives an insight into the nature of the currents as functions of operating conditions and machine parameters. As the current expressions are in closed form, the computation time required is very small.
