Contents: Static compensators based on current injection using GTO thyristors can act exceedingly fast provided that the control is governed by the instantaneous rather than averaged information of the controlled variable. As an aid to compensator design, an analogue computer model simulating the power supply, the load and a fast-switching current compensator complete with its particular control structure has been developed. It is thereby possible to put the control strategy to test and to systematically investigate the effectiveness of load compensation facilitated by the ccmpensator in the system. The computer mechanisation is described and experimental demonstration of steady-state and dynamic response is provided.
