Although reluctance motors are classed normally as synchronous devices, the parametric motor is a reluctance machine which operates asynchronously despite the absence of any windings on the rotor. In the present paper the mechanism of torque production in the parametric motor is explained and the conditions necessary for the machine to function are determined. In addition, the operation of the parametric motor is compared to that of the conventional synchronous reluctance motor. |
