Contents: In this article, hysteresis modeling applied to the calculation of electrical machines is analyzed. The first section presents a comparison of the most important models and a justification for the choice of the Preisach model, which is, in our opinion, the most appropriate one. Subsequently, the fundamentals, characterization, and development of this model are briefly reviewed, and several options are discussed. Section 4 deals with the most suitable extensions of the model to overcome its limitations. Finally, a simple, economical test for characterizing the Preisach model applied to a single-phase transformer is proposed.
