Studies of nonclinical samples show a high frequency of body dissatisfaction and drive for thinness in female adolescents, but to date no study has evaluated the psychological characteristics and evolution of body image disturbance (BID) when it is not associated with an eating disorder. A two-stage study (with follow-up after one year) showed that, in the short term, there was no greater risk of developing an eating disorder in the BID group than in normals. |
