A high frequency of obsessive-compulsive symptoms has been noted in adults with eating disorders. Childhood presentations of eating and obsessive-compulsive disorders are thought to be similar to the presentations of these disorders in adulthood. Therefore, it was hypothesized that children with eating disorders would show a high frequency of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. A retrospective examination of the case notes of 131 children with eating disorders revealed a high concurrence (11.5%) of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, especially in boys with anorexia nervosa. |
