Nato in the post-cold war: An empirical analysis

Title: Nato in the post-cold war: An empirical analysis
Author: Perez-Formes, Claudia
Cuenca, Alain
Appeared in: Defence & peace economics
Paging: Volume 12 (2001) nr. 5 pages 487-496
Year: 2001
Contents: The aim of this paper is to empirically test whether the behaviour of the fifteen countries that make-up the NATO Alliance during the period 1989-1998, effectively responded to the new challenges implied by the doctrine of crisis management. To that end, we use the analytical instrument offered by the joint production model, which still remains valid today. The econometric results would appear to confirm the arguments on the loss of significance of the free rider hypothesis and the relevance acquired by world stability as an explanatory factor.
