One of the most glaring gaps in Scottish historiography is its failure to assign any significance whatsoever to the role played by English migrants to Scotland. This is especially surprising given that the English form, in absolute and relative terms, Scotland's largest migrant community of modern times. This article reveals what the Third Statistical Account of Scotland has to say on the subject of English migration, and advances the argument that the evidence was there, in one of Scotland's most widely used primary sources. |
