Inhoud: Construction projects in developing countries often involve work that can be done only by contractors with a high level of technological skill. Such projects demand managerial and technological skills beyond those of the local contractors. In order to assess the complexity of the product and process for a proposed project, a conceptual framework is developed and tested with a case study. This approach enables judgements to be made about the overall technology requirements for large construction projects. Construction companies can be classified according to their ability to fulfil the technological requirements. In this way, national policy makers can identify the most appropriate kinds of intervention for particular projects.
