We prove the existence of extremal domains for minimizing the capacity of a subset A of the boundary of a domain containing the point at infinity over all normalized conformal maps of the domain, in the case where the domain is bounded by a finite union of Jordan curves, and the set A is a finite union of subarcs. This extends a recent result of Duren and Pfaltzgraff, and fills a gap in the proof of a theorem by Duren and Schiffer. We also exhibit extremal domains in the case where A is an arbitrary boundary subset of minimal capacity zero. |
