Suppose that g is an inner function in the unit ball B of [image omitted] and that v is a nonnegative subharmonic function in B that identifies every pair of points that is identified by g. (Thus v is a function of g but nothing is assumed a priori about the nature of this function.) It is proved that (i) r is then plurisubharmonic and (ii) if r has a harmonic majorant in B, then the least harmonic majorant of r is pluriharmonic and is a harmonic function of g. The theorem holds actually for every holomorphic g: [image omitted] that has g(B) and g(∂B) “almost disjoint”. Among the applications are some that deal with Hardy spaces (the case v =|f|p). |
