Perfect approximant points of tanh z

Title: Perfect approximant points of tanh z
Author: Cargo, G. T.
Appeared in: Complex variables and elliptic equations
Paging: Volume 13 (1989) nr. 1-2 pages 35-55
Year: 1989-10
Contents: A complex number z0 is called of perfect approximant point of order n of the function tanh z if the nth approximant (convergent) of the usual (infinite, reduced form) continued fraction expansion of tanh z at z0 is equal to tanh z0. (The perfect approximant points of order 1 are precisely the fixed points of tanh z.) In this paper, a complete description of the perfect approximant points is given. Also given, as a by-product, is a completely clementary derivation of the usual continued fraction expansion oif tanh z, which, in turn yields an elementary derivation of the nonterminating simple continued fraction expansion of e. Finally, some generalizations are indicated.
