The evolving security environment will force the Clinton administration to confront a series of tough, open-ended questions relating to the use and value of the US. Armed Forces. This article explores the issue as it concerns the nation's special operations forces by examining their limitations and the variety of their potential applications in war. The range of possible special operations ought to be regarded favorably by defense planners in the post-cold war world. Special operations forces in wartime can contribute to the overall strategic effectiveness of the country's entire military force in a timely and cost-effective manner. Their operations employ at times the bare minimum of manpower and equipment to achieve disproportionately greater payoffs that may be critical to high policy. |
