This article addresses the declining importance of many academic contributions to strategy. It charges segments of the “strategic community” with having displayed a misleading attachment to theoretical concepts of minor practical relevance, and of deliberately neglecting military issues. The paper concludes by arguing that the new strategic environment will lead to a revival of more traditional notions of strategy beyond deterrence, involving the actual use of force to achieve political objectives. |
