Placing Our Assumptions at Risk: Pathway to Changing the Culture of the Community College

Title: Placing Our Assumptions at Risk: Pathway to Changing the Culture of the Community College
Author: Claxton, Chuck
Appeared in: Community college journal of research and practice
Paging: Volume 31 (2007) nr. 3 pages 217-229
Year: 2007-03
Contents: Changing the culture of the community college is central in the journey to become learning institutions. The culture of an organization is made up of the assumptions held by its members, and some of these have to change if the necessary transformation is to occur. Recent research on change suggests this can best be achieved if the people in the organization deepen their ability to surface, suspend, and evaluate their present assumptions. A Curriculum Guide for Professional Development, included in the article, describes steps community college educators can take in this process.
