Title: Enterpreneurship/Small Business Degree Programs at Community Colleges
Author: Maidment, Fred
Appeared in: Community college journal of research and practice
Paging: Volume 31 (2007) nr. 1 pages 61-69
Year: 2007-01-01
Contents: Associate degree programs at community colleges in small business/entrepreneurship were examined in this article. The study examined the community college programs in entrepreneurship and small business related, small business administration and entrepreneurship listed in Perterson's Guide to Two-Year Colleges (Oram, 2005). Current catalogs listed in college source online (n.d.) were accessed. There were 35 community colleges listed in Peterson's Two-Year Colleges, 2005 under these categories. Of these 35 institutions, it was determined upon examination of their catalogs that 21 schools actually had small business/entrepreneurship degree programs. The study found a wide variety of names used for the programs and a wide number of small business/entrepreneurship courses required for the degree. The development of business plans was required in about half of the programs, while internships were not as frequent. Less than half of the schools had elective courses, and the most common course was small business management.
