This article examines the economic effects of the 1991 recession on the inflation adjusted current funds revenues of 470 public community colleges. The inflation adjusted revenues per FTE (full-time equivalent enrollment) student generated from student tuition and fees, government appropriations, grants and contracts, private gifts and contracts, and other sources are analyzed for the six-year period of 1989-94. The results show that, on average, public community colleges received less in governmental appropriations per student in 1994 than in 1989. However, total revenues per student increased, because institutions, on average, were able to generate more revenue from student tuition and fees and from government grants and contracts.
