Auteur: Levin, John S.

Jaar: 1995-09
Inhoud: This article identifies and examines determinants that enable a community college president to influence the organization. Specifically, the president's relationship with the board, ability to accommodate and maintain institutional traditions and beliefs, and ability to manage political groups and a presidential emphasis on process as much as on outcomes can work to enable presidential impact. Presidential succession also has a significant influence on institutional functioning. Furthermore, stakeholder tolerance and the degree to which presidential behaviors are consistent with the college community's expectations affect the degree and direction of presidential impact. The article concludes with a brief discussion of ways in which community colleges may minimize the likelihood of a dysfunctional presidency.
