Contents: The purpose of this study was to discover ways in which Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) award has affected the lives and careers of its recipients. We conducted personal interviews with 15 state GOAL recipients. This article describes the effects of receiving the award in terms of different forms of empowerment, that is, empowerment of self, career, and others. The details of the qualitative method applicable to a study of this type are fully described.
